The Hunt….

February 24, 2007

The past 2 weeks have been pretty interesting. Since I am not looking for any one specific type of job, I have just been shaking a lot of different trees to see what falls out. (what God pushes out) Probably the most interesting thing I have run across was a guy who brokers businesses for sale. His job is very much like a real estate agent – he helps the owner determine the value of their business, markets it, screens prospective buyers, and helps one (or both) parties work through the financing and actual purchase. Pretty cool stuff.

I have always wanted to own my own business, but have never been totally fired up about any one thing enough to jump out and give it a shot. So it was fun to look through all the different types of businesses for sale, everything from restaurants to a cleaning business, construction companies, a florist, etc. It was very cool to see what all the owners had done, some of them having owned their business for 20+ years. I am actually interested in a few of the businesses, so I will be doing some more research on them and their respective markets in the Columbia area for the next few weeks.

Still shaking other trees as well… I have revised and sent out my resume so many times the past few weeks I can recite it from memory. (focused on any area you would like) Pretty excited to see what God pushes out….more to come soon….

Still Alive

February 13, 2007

No, I have not quit blogging. Just havent had a lot to say recently. Still trying to figure out the career stuff, desperately wanting some direction from God, but he is keeping pretty quiet on this one. One thing I have figured out about myself is that Im not much of a risk taker. If I were, I would have jumped out and just tried something by now. But I have to overanalyze it and try and figure it all out at the beginning. Maybe God is just trying to teach me that I can trust him to take care of me even when he hasnt given me specific direction. I read a book this week called “Live What You Love.” Its not a spiritual book, or even a “how to” book. Just a collection of stories from one couple’s life together and all the adventures they have experienced just following their hearts. The most amazing thing about their stories was the fact that they never seem to be afraid to fail. And they have a few times. But more often than not, they have experienced a great deal of success. I halfway remember a quote I have heard before stating that the worst mistake is not acting for fear of making one. So Im trying to get the ball rolling on something in the near future, even if I dont have that something completely figured out. This could be interesting….
